Resources for dealing with migraine

Here are a few of the resources I have found helpful over the years. If you have any helpful things to suggest adding, please let me know. It took years for me to get the right practitioner and I don't want that to be the case for others. Because migraines suck. Hard.

Neurologists I've loved, both of whom experience migraines. That's a plus.

Dr. Christina Peterson
Oregon Headache Clinic
503-656-9844
Clackamas, Oregon

Dr. Peterson is great. A small office, nice people, good access to appointments, and she's a smart cookie who will try everything. Chronic migraines are her thing. Lot's of tricks up her sleeve. Give her a call if you are in Oregon and searching for the right doc.

Dr. Robert Cowan
Stanford Headache Clinic
(650) 723-6469
Palo Alto, California

I met Dr. Cowan when he was at the Keeler Center for the Study of Headache in Ojai, California. Super smart, a wee bit cranky (yeah, I'd say it to his face), and another doctor who will not give up. I used to fly down to Ojai until he got all fancy and went to Stanford.

Alternative Practitioners and Treatments

Mill-e-Moto Acupuncture
(503) 372-6463
Beaverton, Oregon

You know all those bizarre migraine symptoms? Well, regular acupuncture has helped me managed those. For me, dampness is a problem. I'm not going to try to explain that one. Just check them out and check out traditional chinese medicine.

Mudra Massage & Floatation
503-706-2225
Portland, Oregon

Get your float on. I know I just said dampness is a problem for me but floating in a pool of heavily salted, body temperature water is awesome. When I do it regularly, it helps take the edge off the pain. For those of you who meditate, it is really good for accelerating your practice. Give it a shot.

Web sites

Migraine.com

Lot's of good information for you and for the people around you. What not to say to chronic migraineurs, etc. Also, a handy online diary to track your migraines. You can print out a report at bring it to your doctor. It's very validating to see it in print. Also, helpful way to connect with other folks in our predicament.
